Howe Strand
Howe Strand is a lonely isolated ruin overlooking a small beach, there are no guided tours or touristy activities. This would be the ideal destination for people who wanted to explore a quiet location somewhat off the beaten path away from the major towns. The often quiet beach is haunted by the imposing structure looking down on it from the hill. Although imposing it makes for quite beautiful scenery.

The old coastguard station is in a state of disrepair. The roof is completely gone, inside the station is filled with rubble and many of the walls have either fallen down or are beginning to crumble and the back is becoming overgrown.

The Raid
During April 1920 the IRA first raided the coastguard station which was occupied by 7 coastguards. The IRA took all the rifles and ammo at the station after the coastguards had surrendered.

The second raid took place during July 1920. This time there were 15 men defending the station. After an intense fight the coastguards once again surrendered. During the fighting one member of the IRA was said to have been killed. They once again took all the guns and ammo at the station. After the fight the IRA burnt down the station. The station was subsequently abandoned although the ruin of the station still stands to this day.

With such a violent past it is unsurprising that the station is rumored to be haunted. Local legend suggests that those killed during the raids by the IRA may linger to this day. Over the years many claim to have seen figures wandering the old ruin on the hill. Sightings of these figure are very rare. Could it be a coastguard that never left his post? Maybe one of the IRA attackers killed during the raid? The answer may never be known but something may still reside in the station.
